Network Operations & Maintenance Training Framwork

The Challenge

Our client, a national ASX Listed Energy Provider retained Devbase for their domain experience in Electricity Transmission Training & Competency to develop a framework for establishing a field and control room Operations and Maintenance workforce for an Electricity Transmission system. This engagement was established as a component of operational readiness planning for the Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone project proposal.

The Solution

Devbase HV Training and Operations advisors were engaged to review the Clients existing documentation and training frameworks before completing a gap assessment. While the client had existing HV Operating assets, these required augmentation and supplementing to meet the stringent requirements for NEM operation. Our advisors undertook the following approach to establish a training and competency program which would see the following elements undertaken:

  • Review of AEMO and NER requirements for System Operations
  • Review the OEM Equipment list to ascertain plant specific competency requirements
  • Review Operations and Maintenance procedures to underpin a training needs analysis
  • Review and Gap Assess nationally recognised competencies
  • Document Skills Gaps not covered by Nationally Competencies
  • Develop a skills and competency matrix
  • Develop documentation for required competencies
  • Develop a schedule for the development of Training materials and Competency Assessments

 Our Impact

Our advisors were successful in developing a comprehensive delivery program which would underpin the bid proposal for establishment of a new Network Operating and Maintenance function for Transmission Electricity infrastructure. The outcome of this work informed the overall bid program and timing of Energy Management System procurement and recruitment which was fundamental to the submission.
