Connection Studies for Wind, Solar, BESS & Gas Generators

Devbase consultants have previously delivered a wide range of technical support solutions across Australia’s renewable and hybrid generation projects. Our experience spans solar, wind, BESS, and gas generator connections, where we have led and supported clients through complex grid connection processes, model tuning, and regulatory approvals.

Gas Peaking Power Plant Connection (300 MW) 

  • We were engaged to develop power system models and tune controls for gas turbines and multiple 3-winding transformers. Our scope included designing voltage control strategies for complex network configurations and operational scenarios, conducting GPS simulations, and contributing to the preparation of the full GPS package.

Gas Peaking Power Plant Connection (350 MW) , QLD

Out team was engaged to develop functional requirements for FCAS and the plant operational controller, while ensuring the gas turbine’s primary function of controlling voltage and frequency at its 11–13 kV terminals was preserved. Our consultants prepared the complete GPS connection package for the 5.4.3A application.   Our consultants also led negotiations with OEMs and NSPs on plant performance requirements.

70MVA Synchronous Condenser, QLD

  • Our consultants were engaged to develop and tune a PSCAD model and submit it to the NSP and AEMO for FIA and system strength assessments . Under this scope they reviewed technical specifications to ensure compliance with connection and performance requirements.

190 MVA BESS Hybrid with 250 MW Solar Farm, NSW

  • Designed and assessed Solar and BESS plants within a DCA/DNA architecture, connecting to one of the most complex areas of the TransGrid network.
  • Led the GPS connection studies package, reviewed performance and documentation, and negotiated performance outcomes to secure 5.3.4A and 5.3.10 letters.
  • Provided continued leadership in completing studies for the R1 package submission.

Solar Farm (~100 MW), QLD

  • Reviewed and optimised SMA inverter projects and settings across the NEM.
  • Troubleshot long-standing model issues from the R0 stage.
  • Directed and delivered the full GPS R1 package submission, achieving strong client satisfaction.

Wind Farm (1,300 MW), VIC

  • Acted as owners technical solution lead for GPS packages on one of Australia’s largest wind developments.
  • Delivered feasibility study grid packages to a high standard, receiving excellent client feedback on timeliness and quality.

Wind Farm (400 MW), NSW

  • Conducted model parameter tuning and troubleshooting under compressed timeframes.
  • Collaborated with client consultants to prepare the complete GPS package, with highly positive feedback from the project sponsor.

Wind Farm (140 MW), NSW

  • Provided technical leadership in model parameter tuning and troubleshooting.
  • Developed innovative solutions for dynamic capacitor bank switching and capacitor sizing.
  • Delivered the GPS package and associated modelling studies.

Solar Farm (300+ MW) with BESS (50 MW)

  • Delivered integrated technical studies and modelling support to progress the project’s connection pathway.
  • Assisted in the preparation and refinement of GPS deliverables to meet regulatory requirements.
